The stork (Ciconiidae) is long-legged wading bird and lives long. According to the ancient German and Greek cultures, the stork is a symbol of a mother's love. Also, the white stork has been viewed as a powerful symbol of birth and new life, most notably in the story of how babies come to be. German folklore held that storks found babies in caves or marshes and brought them to households in a basket on their backs or held in their beaks. These caves contained adebarsteine or "stork stones".
