This portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, known as The Lady in Gold, by Gustav Klimt was completed between 1903 and 1907. The portrait was commissioned by the sitter's husband, Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, a Jewish banker and sugar producer. In 1941, the painting was stolen by Nazis. It wasn't until 2006 that the painting was returned to the Bloch-Bauer family and sold for $135 million.
