Assassin's Creed is a series of historical fiction video games, comics, books, and shorts. Video games are action-adventure, stealth, and open-world. They differ in main video games and spin-offs. They have been published for platforms such as PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Switch, Wii U, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, iOS, HP webOS, Android, Nokia Symbian and Windows Phone.
The main games in the franchise have been developed by Ubisoft Montreal (single player mode) and Ubisoft Annecy (multiplayer mode) and the portable titles by Gameloft and Gryptonite Studios, with Ubisoft Montreal as an additional developer. The series has been very well received by the public and critics, and has sold more than 73 million copies as of April 2014. The series is inspired by the Alamut novel by Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, and is considered by some to be the successor spiritual of the Prince of Persia series.
